ACS Celebrates 20th Anniversary and SEHK Main Board Listing

HONG KONG,10 November, 2015 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 2086), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), is celebrating its 20th anniversary and successful listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (SEHK) on 29 September 2015. To celebrate these milestones, ACS held a banquet on 6 November in Happy Valley Racecourse, the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

“ACS’s second decade is a shared accomplishment. Without the support of our investors, business partners and employees, the last twenty years could not have been successful,” says Alice Tsui, ACS Chairman. “Meanwhile, ACS’s transfer listing to the Main Board of SEHK was formally marked ACS’s transition from being an emerging company to an established one. We are honored to share these successes with stakeholders during the banquet dinner.

“We are excited over the different activities that we have planned to commemorate these two milestones,” adds Alice. “We will end our second decade on a happy note, and usher in the next one with a renewed sense of purpose.”

Smart Card Alliance Declares ACS a Center of Excellence

HONG KONG, 12 October, 2015 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 2086), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), was designated as a Center for Excellence (COE) by the Smart Card Alliance (SCA). The designation was awarded to ACS on 5 October 2015, during the October Smart Card Alliance Member Meeting. Bob Merkert, ACS President for the Americas, received the award in behalf of ACS.

SCA describes COEs as “an elite mix of member organizations who, each year, reach the highest level of active participation in the Alliance by having made outstanding contributions in the form of organization-wide leadership of time, talent and resources across a wide mix of Alliance activities.”

In 2014, ACS was elected as a steering committee member for two SCA Industry Councils: Health and Human Services, and Access Control. Industry Councils are focused groups comprised of SCA member organizations. They are created to foster greater industry collaboration to benefit a specific industry or market segment. ACS has also been a consistent speaker, exhibitor, and contributor to SCA conferences and events.

“ACS has worked hard towards this distinction, just as we have worked towards the other distinctions that we have received,” says Bob. “Our company has been contributing extensively to SCA activities, because we believe that collaboration is a proven route toward creating lasting value for the industry’s stakeholders.”

“When ACS was elected into SCA Industry Committees last year, I said that to realize our goal of leadership in the industry, we have to be an instrument for its growth,” says Gilbert Leung, ACS Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “We are making good on that statement, and will continue to do so in the coming years.”

ACS Announces Partnership to Supply EMV Card Personalization Services in the Philippines

gati-logoHONG KONG, 09 September, 2015 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 2086), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), announced the launch of Goldpac ACS Technologies Inc. (GATI) in the Philippines.

GATI is a one-stop resource for EMV (Europay, MasterCard and VISA) bank card personalization that provides complete services, from card preparation to card issuance. GATI is a joint venture among ACS, Goldpac Group Ltd. (Goldpac), and BECA Worley Enterprises (BECA Worley). Goldpac (SEHK: 3315) is the largest supplier of financial cards and personalization services in Greater China. BECA Worley is a bank card distributor in the Philippines with extensive reach and strong relationships with local banks. With ACS’s experience and the credentials of its partners, GATI delivers effective EMV personalization services to clients in the Philippines.

A recent government mandate has required all banks and other financial institutions in the Philippines to shift the entire payment network from the traditional magnetic stripe to more secure EMV chip technology by 1 January 2017. GATI foresees the market potential arising from this mandate, and recognizes its importance in stimulating the growth of the Philippines’ secure payment industry.

“The Philippines is one of the most important smart card markets in Southeast Asia,” says Gilbert Leung, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, ACS. “EMV migration brings plenty of benefits for banks, financial institutions, and their stakeholders. GATI is a technology partner that helps make the transition painless for financial institutions and their stakeholders.”

“ACS welcomes and is challenged by the Philippines’ shift to EMV. This is another expansion of our technologies, which used to be predominantly in the identity, IT security and closed-loop payment spheres,” Gilbert adds.

ACS Launches ACR3901U-S1 Bluetooth® Contact Card Reader

ACR3901U-S1_Right_250x250HONG KONG, 2 October, 2015 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 2086), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), today launched the ACR3901U-S1 Bluetooth Contact Card Reader. The ACR3901U-S1 works with mobile devices to support contact smart cards, even without a physical connection to any terminal.

ACR3901U-S1 works with devices running on Android™ 4.3 or higher, iOS 6.0 or higher, and Windows 8 or higher, and MAC OS. It supports ISO 7816 Class A, B, and C smart cards, most memory cards, and microprocessor cards with T=0 or T=1 protocol. This compact mobile card reader is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, which makes it suitable for use anywhere.

Devices supporting Bluetooth Smart® (also known as Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE), like ACR3901U-S1, are suited not only for conventional applications such as file exchange and entertainment, but also for health and fitness, security, etc. BLE enables running off a tiny battery for extended periods, and has a communication range similar to Bluetooth Classic. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group estimates that BLE-supporting smartphones will exceed 90 percent by the end of 2018.

Aside from its BLE interface, ACR3901U-S1 also has a USB Interface, which enables PC-linked operations and device charging. A built-in switch will help the user toggle between PC-linked and charging modes. It is also USB firmware upgradeable, ensuring that the user can easily keep pace with fast-changing technology scenarios.

“The ACR3901U-S1 takes mobility to another level,” says Gilbert Leung, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ACS. “After we have launched smart card readers that are simply plugged into mobile devices, we are now offering a smart card reader that requires no connection to a smartphone or tablet, but still enables such devices to perform smart card–based transactions. We are pleased to be able to develop devices ensuring that smart card technology is always at the user’s fingertips.”
