ACS Elected Member of Smart Card Alliance Steering Committees

SCAHONG KONG, 31 Jan, 2014 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), has been elected as a steering committee member for two Smart Card Alliance (SCA) Industry Councils.

SCA is a “not-for-profit, multi-industry association working to stimulate the understanding, adoption, use and widespread application of smart card technology.” An SCA Industry Council is a focused group composed of alliance members, working to increase industry collaboration in a specific industry or market segment. Councils are headed by steering committees, which set strategy and direction, as well as approve activities and deliverables.

From 2015 to 2016, Bob Merkert, ACS President for the Americas, will be part of the steering committees for Health and Human Services, and Access Control.

“Membership in these two committees is an excellent opportunity to help accelerate adoption of smart card technology in two key sectors,” says Bob. “Smart card–based healthcare solutions are diverse, ranging from storage of patient records, to prevention of claim fraud. Meanwhile, smart card–based access control encompasses multiple industries, as security becomes a more pressing concern for all. ACS is excited and fortunate to be playing potentially high-impact roles for the smart card industry.”

“ACS is working towards the goal of leadership in the industry,” says Gilbert Leung, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “We recognize that to reach this goal, we have to help grow the industry. Beyond growing a business, industry growth represents rewards for all stakeholders: improved services, more secure physical and logical networks, and more efficient operations. We look forward to helping make this happen, in collaboration with other SCA members.”

SCA has six active Industry Councils: Access Control, Health and Human Services, Identity, Payments, Transportation, and Mobile and NFC. ACS Wins Technological Achievement Award in 2014 Hong Kong Awards for Industries

HKAI_Award_Winner_logoHONG KONG, 19 December, 2014 – Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanced Card Systems Holdings Ltd., SEHK: 8210), Asia Pacific’s top supplier and one of the world’s top 3 suppliers of PC-linked smart card readers (Source: Frost & Sullivan), was recognized in the 2014 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI). ACS received the Technological Achievement Award for its contactless smart card reader module technology on 18 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

HKAI’sTechnological Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in pursuit of high-technology and high value-added activities. Entries are evaluated based on excellence, value of intellectual property, contribution to society, and market recognition.

The winning entry, contactless smart card reader module technology is the platform for many of ACS’s contactless smart card readers. It is developed based on 13.56 MHz Radio-frequency identification (RFID), ISO14443, and ISO18092 Near Field Communication (NFC) technology which enables communication between a host and a contactless card or NFC-enabled phone. It may be integrated with other technologies (e.g. biometric readers) for stronger authentication or incorporated into mobile card readers to enable even mobile devices without built-in NFC to facilitate contactless transactions.

HKAI“It has been a big year for ACS’s contactless smart card reader module,” says Gilbert Leung, ACS Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “It has been recognized in and outside Hong Kong, and has served as an essential component of many of ACS’s solutions worldwide. The Technological Achievement Award has given us another thing to be thankful for, and has also compelled us to elevate our efforts even further.”

This year, the contactless smart card reader module also received a Certificate of Merit for Communications during the Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards, which recognizes outstanding ICT technologies all over Asia. Furthermore, devices and systems employing the contactless reader module also gained a number of awards internationally.
